I think it’s safe to say we’ve reached peak EDC when our EDC needs EDC! Bags and backpacks are a mainstay in the everyday carry domain, but the problem with bags and backpacks is that we still only have two hands. Two hands – one of which could be better put to use holding a phone, while the other holding a matcha latte. So what do you do when you have bags but no place to hold them? You wear them. That’s what the BareBag is attempting – but on steroids.

Built out in two designs, the BareBag is a crossbody bag that’s also designed to hold your other bags. Originally designed for users with disabilities and dexterity issues, the bags themselves work as storage, but also come with a uniquely designed format that lets you further hook/clamp other bags onto your self, holstering them around your shoulder so your hands are free to do whatever they need, whether it’s texting a friend, checking your maps, or using any of your other EDC.

Modern problems call for modern solutions, although the team at BareBag knows that one design can’t possibly fit all needs – hence the creation of two separate bag designs – the Classic 2 and the Nano 2. Both share the same core DNA of hands-free modularity, but they diverge dramatically in execution and purpose. The Classic 2 weighs 298 grams and functions as your daily urban companion, while the Nano 2 tips the scales at just 155 grams and serves as the ultimate minimalist’s tool. These represent two fundamentally different approaches to the question of what we actually need to carry and how we want to carry it – the way a car and a motorbike serve the same need but in fundamentally different ways.

Classic 2

The Classic 2 feels like your ‘classic’ cross-body pouch, but with a clever external dual-hook exoskeleton integrated directly into the bag’s recycled polyester body. The hooks turn dead space around your body into functional carry zones for shopping bags, umbrellas, jackets, or anything with a handle. The magic happens when you’re out running errands and suddenly need to juggle coffee, takeout, and an impulse purchase. Instead of becoming a human octopus, you simply hook items onto your Classic 2 and keep moving without breaking stride or dropping your phone. The two hooks can either hold two separate items, or stably hook one item to prevent it from swinging around too much while you’re on your outdoor errand run.

The bag itself is small but spacious enough to house your phone, portable charger, tissues, earbuds, lipstick, and more. There’s a dedicated card pocket for your payment/access/membership cards, and even though the Classic 2 prides itself in its compact form factor, it packs expandable storage right in the upper flap. Want to store/carry more? Rear loading straps at the bottom (like the ones seen on backpacks) let you slide a few more items in, like a pen, flashlight, or anything linear.

The Classic 2 is designed to be easily and securely worn across your shoulder, with BareBag’s innovative BlutterSlide adjustment mechanism that lets you quickly tighten or loosen the bag based on your physique and your outfit. Unlike traditional webbing adjusters that stick, catch, and jerk, the ButterSlide lives up to its name with smooth, silent adjustment that you can operate one-handed while walking. This matters when you’re constantly tweaking the fit based on clothing layers, load weight, or switching from left to right shoulder carry throughout the day. The four-layer padding distributes the 3kg weight limit comfortably across your shoulder without creating pressure points, even during all-day wear sessions. The ambidextrous design accommodates left and right shoulder carry without compromise, letting you switch based on urban navigation needs or simple comfort.

The Nano 2 takes a completely different route to solving the same problem. At 155 grams (including the strap), it weighs less than most smartphones but packs genuine functionality into its minimal recycled leather frame. Its unique design is characterized by a strap that houses a recycled leather card holder, accompanied by a visually iconic Disc System that lets you hook objects onto the Nano 2, going beyond your standard carabiner by providing something much more elegant, user-friendly, and intuitive to use.

The Nano 2

The Disc System is uniquely functional, but has a fashionable appeal too, thanks to its swappable design. Just interchange discs on the Nano 2 like you would change a tie to radically alter the appeal of your suit. This prevents the minimalist approach from becoming limiting by giving you visual options without permanent bulk. The same ButterSlide adjustment and four-layer padding from the Classic 2 ensures the Nano 2 maintains comfort despite its featherweight status. To counter for its small size, the Nano 2 also packs a gear loop system, or a ‘corrugated’ strap to the side of the disc, giving you multiple loops to hang different gear.

Built-in RFID protection blocks electronic pickpocketing without adding bulk, while the internal organization keeps cards and micro-essentials secure. Where the Classic 2 goes big on external attachment, the Nano 2 focuses on adaptability through its push-and-twist Nano Disc System. These interchangeable discs attach to designated points on the bag’s exterior, letting you modify both appearance and functionality on the fly.

Both bags embody BareBag’s core concept of being “a mini hook you can wear,” but execute it differently. The Classic 2 makes your body an infrastructure hub, while the Nano 2 focuses on becoming nearly invisible until needed. Modularity runs throughout both designs but is expressed through different mechanisms. The Classic 2 adapts through physical attachment points, while the Nano 2 transforms through its Disc System. Both also enshrine modularity through the lens of repairability, which means parts can be undone and replaced if they ever get damaged or succumb to wear and tear.

Recycled nylon blend straps on both models adjust smoothly for different body types and carrying preferences, while the weather-tested materials handle the daily abuse of city life without showing wear. Both bags share the same 3-kilogram weight limit, though the practical implications differ dramatically – the Classic 2 might start the day loaded with your core essentials plus have capacity for additions, while the Nano 2 begins nearly empty and fills with whatever your day brings.

There’s an additional accessibility element to the design that deserves its own separate mention, given that the BareBag’s philosophy deeply resonates with people with physical disabilities. While not instantly evident, the bags were initially designed keeping users with upper limb disabilities, arthritis, and cerebral palsy in mind. The bags were made to help enable easy Every Day Carry for them, and then by extension, the 95th percentile of consumers. “We received incredibly inspiring messages and feedback from our potential customers and test users, saying how this simple solution can significantly change and improve their lives,” say the designers behind BareBag.

Choosing between the Classic 2 and Nano 2 comes down to your relationship with preparedness versus minimalism. The Classic 2 suits people who want to leave the house with confidence that they can handle whatever the day throws at them without overthinking their carry strategy. The Nano 2 appeals to users who have already optimized their essential carry and want a nearly invisible system for handling the variables. Both represent thoughtful responses to the fundamental tension between being prepared and staying mobile in urban environments.

Both bags are built to be affordable, functional, robust, and long-lasting. The Nano 2 starts at around $99, while the Classic 2 is a smidge higher (given its size upgrade) at $129, with global shipping as early as August 2025.
