While Black Friday itself may still be a couple days away, plenty of retailers have already kicked off massive sales. That includes streaming services, which are always at their lowest price of the year in the week leading up to Cyber Monday.
HBO Max’s Black Friday discount drops the Basic subscription’s monthly cost to $2.99/month, and now Hulu has matched that discount with its Premium Add-On. If you’re already a Hulu subscriber, going for the HBO Max Add-On keeps your streaming bill and your library all in one place.
Get 12 Months of HBO Max on Hulu for $2.99/mo
After a recent round of price hike, a basic HBO Max plan (with ads) costs $11.99/mo. The Black Friday discount drops that price to $2.99/mo for 12 months. That’s over a 70% discount that lasts twice as long as last year’s HBO Max deal. The only catch is that the deal is limited to the ad-supported version of HBO Max, which applies to pretty much every Black Friday streaming deal.
By adding HBO Max to your Hulu plan, you’ll get what I consider one of the best streaming libraries, period. You get classic HBO originals like The Wire and The Sopranos as well as more recent hits like Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus. You’ll get all things DC Comics, including the now-concluded DCEU and whatever James Gunn cooks up next. You’ll also get plenty of animation, with a big highlight here being the Studio Ghibli movies.
Is an Add-On Deal Worth It?
Back in the day, streaming deals were limited to standalone subscriptions. The era of bundles has theoretically made those subscriptions cheaper, but also harder to manage. It also means streaming deals can become a complete mess, and I recommend doing some serious thinking about what you already have.
In this case, if you already have Hulu, I’d go for the Add-On to keep your bill as simple as possible. If you’re not already on Hulu, I’d check out the Disney+ Black Friday discounts or go straight to HBO Max.
That said, I wouldn’t do too much thinking. Black Friday deals are easily the lowest you’ll get from any of these services, and you get those prices for a full year. Play your cards right and you’re never paying for a full-price streaming subscription again.
More Black Friday Streaming Deals Live Now
Aside from Hulu and HBO Max, Apple TV has also launched a Black Friday deal dropping their one and only ad-free subscription plan to $4.99 for six months. For the anime-inclined, Crunchyroll has knocked $20 off their Mega Fan subscription tier.
